A member of VLC team has revealed that it is now “a matter of weeks” when we see the official VLC app hit the android market.
The makers of the VLC Player — a vey very popular video player on Windows, Mac and Linux, that’s capable of playing literally any file format thrown at it — are bringing an android app pretty soon. Developer Jean-Baptiste Jempf, who is in-charge of the app told Janko at GigaOm, that the app is now “a matter of weeks”.
Recently, Google updated its Android NDK software and that’s helping the devs to use the native code easier than before. But main reason behind the delay goes to already wildly discussed (and hated by some) android fragmentation, which is also keeping Netflix away from the android market.
VLC’s official app is already available on Apple’s appstore for free. We expect that the android version would also brace the ‘Free’ tag when it hits the market. It’s safe to expect a January release from VLC guys for a play-all-media kind of app, you know.
Until we see the outfit releases its official app, you have to do with the vPlayer (Beta) android app, that as per our limited interactions with the app, does seems capable of playing wide variety of android apps.
Have rocking holidays, VLC team! We’re waiting.
