New updates for Galaxy Note 8, Galaxy S9/S9+ bring August security patch

Samsung is known to be one of the slowest OEMs when it comes to rolling out software updates. But as we have come to learn, this mostly affects major OS upgrades and not the regular monthly updates.

This is evident in today’s developments, where the company’s most prized assets in the smartphone business are now receiving new software updates that bring this month’s Android security patches. The devices in question are the Galaxy S9, Galaxy S9+ and Galaxy Note 8, but all this is with respect to the international models.

Where the Galaxy S9 is receiving software version G960FXXU2BRGA, the Galaxy S9+’s update has software version G965FXXU2BRGA. On the other hand, the Note 8’s software version is getting bumped to N950FXXU4CRGA and like the S9 twins, it’s based on the latest Android Oreo.

These updates are airborne, meaning it will take several days or a week before all units receive the download notification, so be patient if the OTA notification hasn’t arrived on your device yet. Also, carrier-branded models should start seeing the updates in the next two or so weeks, which requires even more patience.
