Snapchat has just announced that they’ve slightly redesigned the app and are focusing on keeping friends and publishers separate. They want to separate the social from the media, at least, that’s what the company says.

With the new update, which starts rolling out tomorrow, all the chats and stories from your friends are available on the left side, and stories from brands, creators, etc, are on the right. When you launch the Snapchat app, you’ll see the camera as usual, but things have been organized now.

Previously, stories from both your friends and brands, celebrities, etc, where on the same page, to your right. That’s not the case anymore. Also, the Friends page on the left will now show stories based on your relationship with them. The button to watch all stories together has been removed, but now the app will show you a preview of the next story once you’ve finished watching the current story.

For example, if you constantly snap or text a particular person, you will now see their story first. Your best friends will show up before the others. This won’t happen right away, as the app will need some time to learn the way you communicate with your friends.

Everything else is pretty much the same, the Discover page to the right will also show content that you prefer first. This too will take some time as the app learns your preferences. Apart from that, right side of the camera is where you’ll find the stories and other content from the media and celebrities.

This is sort of big redesign, and Snapchat is hoping this will make it easier for users to keep in touch with their friends and engage more.
