The Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge are no longer Samsung’s darlings but the company still hasn’t neglected them. The two are receiving a new update that improves the security patch level to the latest available – January 2019.

The standard S7’s update arrives as software version G930UUES8CSA1 while the Edge variant’s update bears software version G935UUES8CSA1. Going by the model numbers in the firmware(G930U for the S7 and G935U for the S7 Edge), we are looking at updates meant for the U.S. unlocked variants.

This update is based on Android Oreo, the second and last major OS for these two devices. In addition to installing the latest security patches, it also tags along plenty of optimizations and bug fixes for any issues since the last update.

The two are receiving the updates over the air, meaning it will take some time before all units get the download notification. You can force the update via the Settings menu, but make sure you have connected to a stable Wi-Fi connection and the battery is at least 50% full.

The Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge will be succeeded for the third time on February 20, 2019, at an Unpacked event and this time, there’s a 5G variant, too. You can read about your favorite Galaxy S10 variant via their respective links below.
