I have always had one complaint about the gaming scene on Android – thanks to a plethora of different processors and graphics chips powering Android devices, developers have always refrained from going all out in the graphics department (barring exceptions like Dead Trigger), unlike iOS where the same games would get much better graphics thanks to Apple devices not having too much variation in hardware.
However, all that is set to change thanks to the LG Nexus 4 and Samsung Nexus 10, as Gameloft has announced that they will be bringing 10 of their games to the new Nexus devices (including the Nexus 7), such as The Dark Knight Rises, The Amazing Spider-Man, and N.O.V.A 3, with better graphics optimized to take advantage of the high resolution Nexus 10 display as well as the quad-core Snapdragon S4 Pro chipset in the Nexus 4.
Here’s the complete list of games:
- The Dark Knight Rises
- The Amazing Spider-Man
- Monster Life
- The Oregon Trail: American Settlers
- N.O.V.A. 3
- Dungeon Hunter 3 HD
- Kingdom and Lords
- Asphalt 7
- Ice Age Village
- Modern Combat 3: Fallen Nation
Google made a great move putting in the latest hardware inside the new Nexus devices, and since Nexus devices always attract developers due to them being the reference devices for Android, it is not that unexpected to see Gameloft bringing high-definition graphics to Android. Hopefully more developers will do the same, and that we also see iOS game developers who stay away from Android due to the fragmentation enter the fray.
After this announcement by Gameloft, I simply can’t wait to get my hands on the LG Nexus 4, and I’m sure many are equally excited about the Nexus 10. Come on Gameloft, hurry up and release these games so we can finally see eye-to-eye with our iOS brethren when it comes to HD games.
An exciting time for Android games in on the horizon!
