We are all familiar with Google’s habit of teaming up with different manufacturers to create stock Android devices, the software giant manages the design, development, marketing, and support of these devices, whereas the hardware is created by an OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer), whose ranks have included Samsung, HTC, Asus, Motorola and LG. This pairing up has resulted in the Nexus series of devices with the latest — Nexus 6 — developed by Motorola Mobility.
While there were rumors that the Nexus 6 may have been the last of its line, we did not attach much credence to them — and rightly so — since according to another set of rumors, Google may launch another one of these devices as early as late 2015. However, the device may or may not carry the “Nexus” name with it. Whats more, Google may just be gearing up to partner with a Chinese company for help with the manufacture of its next Nexus smartphone, although a latest survey suggested that a Google-Sony combine is something which would really appeal to most of the populace.
With a whole host of main line Chinese companies available, that does make settling down on a single one pretty hard, but Xiaomi with an ex-Googler — Hugo Barra — as its international Vice President, may just hold a bit of an edge over its nearest competitors Huawei and Lenovo.
Well, we will just have to wait for an official announcement to make things clearer.
