Motorola has already updated the Moto Z2 Play to Android Oreo in some markets, but the likes of Verizon are still yet to roll out the update. If, however, you need a different flavor of Android on your Z2 Play, the team behind LineageOS has added this device to the list of supported handsets on LineageOS 15.1, which is based on Android 8.1 Oreo.

While the fact that the Moto Z2 Play is part of Motorola’s official Oreo plans may lessen the desire to have the Oreo-based LineageOS 15.1 ROM, it is, in fact, the possibility that this latest development could mean this device may receive the upcoming Android 9 Pie-based LineageOS 16 that’s more interesting.

When a device gets an official LineageOS ROM, usually, chances of it getting an update increase. Having said that, we hope LineageOS 16 will also include support for the Moto Z2 Play, especially since Motorola won’t bring Pie to this device.
