The original Droid Razr M was the first mid-range device released by Motorola after their acquisition by Google, and went on sale in mid-September. While the Razr M was classified as a mid-range device, the specs it packed were quite respectable for the time.
With a 4.3″ qHD (540×960) edge-t0-edge Super AMOLED display, a 1.5 GHz Snapdragon S4 dual-core CPU, 1GB RAM, 8MP camera, 8GB internal memory, a 2000 mAh battery, LTE connectivity, the Razr M hit the ground running Android 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich, feeling right at home alongside the high-end Droid Razr HD, and the Razr MAXX HD, and quickly gained popularity as a solid, value for money smartphone.
According to a new rumor that is doing the rounds, Motorola may be readying an enhanced version of the Droid Razr M, with a better and slightly bigger display (let’s face it qHD displays will be a thing of the past in 2013, even for a mid-range device), more internal storage, and a juicier battery.
The updated device will likely be called the Droid Razr M HD, and word has it that it will pack a 4.5-inch 720p display, which bridges the gap sweetly between the existing 4.3-inch screen it packs and the 4.7-inch displays that adorn the Droid Razr HD and Razr MAXX HD.
The updated device will also come with 16GB of onboard memory which will be a welcome change for lots of folks, and continue to retain the expandable microSD slot in case you need more space. The battery will also get beefed up to a whopping 3300 mAh, similar to the one on the Droid Razr Maxx HD. The updated Razr M HD will also come with Android 4.1 Jelly Bean on board.
There is also a leaked list of all the rumored specs, and our comrades at Droid-Life feel that the format in which the specs have been presented do look quite similar to Motorola data sheets they have seen in the past. This does lend some amount of credence to the rumor. Of course, there is no official word or comment yet from Motorola or Verizon at this point, so we will just have to wait for CES which is around the corner, to see if the Razr M HD decides to make an official appearance there.
Here’s a full list of the rumored specs for your reference. If this turns out to be true, the new Razr M HD is definitely going to be the value device to get, if you are in the market for a mid-range LTE device.
