The death knell has begun for Motorola loyalists all over the world, with the budget Moto E3 (or Moto E3 Power) being confirmed to be left out for the update to Nougat. Though this isn’t anything new and the rumors had been circulating for a while, this confirmation from Motorola has snuffed out whatever flame of hope there was for the Moto E3 Power.

Motorola which began rediscovering its path back in 2013 with its legacy stock Android and confirmed Android updates, captured the hearts of many out there. The E3 was considered quite the significant upgrade over the previous two generations and this gave some hope to owners of the device.  Now, thanks to Lenovo’s indirect intervention, the Moto E3 is the first Motorola device to be denied an update.

This new direction that Motorola has taken reeks of Lenovo, whose own devices have the habit of being left out of updates. This isn’t the first time that Lenovo has shown its hand in the functioning of Motorola. The Chinese variant of recent Moto devices have been spotted running on Lenovo’s custom ZUI, which is a far step away from stock Motorola tradition.

Maybe Lenovo has good intentions in mind for Motorola but that remains to be seen over the coming months. But for now Moto E3 owners will have to rely on rooting and flashing Lineage OS 14.1 to have a feel of Nougat.
