When Xiaomi published the official MIUI 9 roadmap several weeks ago, it was confirmed that the Redmi 3 will receive the update in mid-April. Well, the company has kept its word as the phone, alongside the Redmi 3 Prime, is now receiving the stable ROM 9.5.2 over the air.

This update is rolling out to the global versions of Xiaomi Redmi 3 and Redmi 3 Prime and even though we’ve seen the new MIUI 9 rolling out to other devices based on Android Oreo, there’s no OS change for the Redmi 3 handsets.

Despite the lack of Oreo, Xiaomi has bundled plenty of new features, optimizations, bug fixes as well as performance improvements that should breathe a new life into the Redmi 3 pair. Some of the highlights include:

  • Resume interrupted transfers in Mi Mover without starting over
  • Adjusted the position of the search bar
  • Optimized Browser’s kernel
  • Transfer apps with or without app data using Mi Mover
  • New format for floating notifications in the landscape mode (Full-screen display)

Here’s the full changelog.

Note that this is an OTA update and like any other, it will take time before every Redmi 3 and Redmi 3 Prime user receives the notification to download and install it. This means you may get it over the weekend or maybe next week, but there’s always room to try a manual update via the Settings menu.

If you can deal with flashing ROMs, you can also grab the recovery or fastboot ROM and install it manually.
