According to a new report, users in India will soon be able to purchase smartphones running Android Oreo Go Edition for as cheap as $30 or INR 2000. Google has apparently partnered or is partnering with brands such as Micromax, Karbonn, Intex, and Lava to bring affordable phones to the market.

Micromax would be the first brand to release a smartphone with Android Oreo Go Edition on board. As per the report, this phone will launch sometime around Republic day in India and cost around $30. Don’t expect anything awesome from this phone, but it is said to support 4G. Micromax had previously worked with Google to release a few Android One smartphones as well.

Google announced the Android Oreo Go Edition late last year. The Go Edition of the Oreo OS is a slimmed down version that can run smoothly on a low-end budget smartphone and includes several Go edition apps. However, we haven’t heard any manufacturer adopting the OS so far, apart from Nokia.

Nokia is most likely planning on releasing an Android Go powered smartphone with 1GB RAM and 8GB of storage called the Nokia 1. We can expect many such cheap smartphones to be launched in India this year. This should enable customers with lower budgets to own a smartphone and get online. Stay tuned for more!
