Meizu showcased its latest fast charging technology today at the ongoing Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. Named as the Super mCharge, the much talked about fast charging tech boasts of being capable of charging phones from zero to 100% in just 20 minutes.

The technique used by Meizu to offer charging at such lightning speed is charge pumps which utilizes ‘two groups of conversion circuits to directly output half of the voltage.’ Further, a 11V/5A charger is used by Meizu to deliver 55W. This basically means that the phone will be charged at lower 11V voltage (down from 12V) but higher current.

All these techniques inflate the charging efficiency which increases from 9% to an astounding 98%, thus enabling the phone to get fully charged in less than 30 minutes.

Outlining the safety parameter, Meizu made it clear that the fast charging method heats the battery upto 102.2 degree Fahrenheit (39 degrees Celsius) which is tolerable and doesn’t harm it.

Although 20 minutes for a full charge seems too good to be true, the final verdict can be made only when Meizu makes the Super mCharge tech officially available in its devices.
