At the CES 2018, LG did confirm that it plans to adopt a new strategy for its smartphone business, where it will only release phones when it matters. Based on the latest developments, this new strategy seems poised to affect only the company’s flagship LG G and V series.
Having said that, the Korean tech giant has just unveiled a new budget phone dubbed LG X4+. As you would expect, the phone is currently limited to the Korean market and will be sold through the country’s three major carriers. So far, we don’t know if the X4+ will make it to other markets across the globe, but we should know soon or later.
In terms of specs, the LG X4+ ships with a 5.3-inch IPS LCD display screen with an HD resolution, Qualcomm Snapdragon 425 SoC, 2GB RAM and 32GB of expandable storage (up to 2TB). The aluminum back panel has a 13MP lens with a wide-angle view of 70 degrees while the front gets a 5MP unit with a wide-angle view of 100 degrees for better group selfies and video calls.
Software-wise, the LG X4+ has Android 7.0 Nougat out of the box, which is quite disappointing for a 2018 phone despite its class. On the brighter side, the phone’s body is MIL-STD 810G certified, making it one of the best rugged phones in its category, if not the best. To ice it even further, LG has included Hi-Fi DAC technology for enhanced audio experience and to keep it alive is a decent 3000mAh battery unit.
Other features include Bluetooth 4.2, NFC, USB Type B (what the heck, LG?), rear-mounted fingerprint scanner and support for LG Pay out of the box. The LG X4+ is expected to start selling before the end of this month priced at 300,000 Won (about $282) and it will be available in Moroccan Blue and Lavender Violet.
