It looks like LG is indeed going to be making the next Nexus smartphone for Google, or at least one of the five Nexus devices that are supposed to come out. Paul O’Brien of MoDaCo has just received confirmation from a trusted source, who has also provided the specs of the device.

According to the tipster, LG’s Nexus will be based on the LG Optimus G but will look different, and will have wireless charging built into the device. However, the device will sadly be available in only 8 and 16GB variants (at least initially) and won’t have a microSD slot either as is the Google tradition, which is a huge disappointment if true.

Here are the specs confirmed for now:

  • Quad Core Snapdragon S4 processor
  • 2GB RAM
  • 1280×768 True-HD IPS screen
  • On screen soft keys (of course)
  • 8 Megapixel Camera
  • No microSD slot
  • 8GB and 16GB versions only (at least initially)
  • Non-removable battery
  • Wireless charging built-in

The Galaxy Nexus was criticized for having specs that weren’t up to date, but the Nexus made by LG will most certainly not be in the same category, as the quad-core Snapdragon S4 Pro processor and 2GB of RAM are as updated as can be, though the absence of a microSD slot yet again will surely have its detractors, and so will the non-removable battery.

The launch of the LG Nexus is targeted for mid-November. Whatever happens, I for sure am very excited (even though the absence of a Super AMOLED display stands out for me) and you can be sure we’ll bring you more info on this as and when more details emerge. Stay tuned!
