LG is planning to assault the budget smartphones market this year again and has LG Optimus Net P690 to prove it. If the Optimus Net P690 lacked the bands and chips required for US, FCC just came in handy letting us know that they have already tested a slightly different named version of the Optimus Net, tagged as P690g — the addition of g in the end. FCC docs show that P690g supports HSDPA on 850 MHz and 1900 MHz bands which is what is required if you plan to put your phone in AT&T stores. Let’s hope a confirmation from AT&T comes soon, like a neat Sony S2 tablet the carrier announced earlier.
LG Optimus One was a hit of year 2010. Although it didn’t sell in tons of millions — like Galaxy S which sold more than 10 million in just 6 months — but since it was launched on every carrier and was good specs-wise for a budget level phone, it did manage to enter couple million homes around the world. And LG looks to repeat the performance of last year’s LG Optimus One in and as this year’s Optimus Net P690 — which packs in decent features for a entry level phone: 800 MHz Qualcomm processor (that powered last year’s high-end HTC G2), Android 2.3 Gingerbread (which even dual-core processor powered Moto Atrix still doesn’t have), a typical low-end phone HVGA screen with resolution of 320 x 480, 512 MB RAM (more than that of Xperia Arc), etc.
Clearly, Optimus Net is no slouch when it comes to spec-sheet comparison so we think it’s gonna be one very good buy for those not looking to spend heavens on Galaxy S 2 and other phones of its ilk. No, we don’t have the price out yet, but going by the screen size and presence of last year’s high-end specs of this phone, we think it will be one of the best entry-level phones we will see this year.
So if you’re looking to buy one cheap budget android phone, LG Optimus is the phone you want.
