One phone we talked, talked and talked too much about this and the last month was LG Star, a dual-core android phone from LG, which has gotten itself a top alert announcement (just in time before Nexus S begins selling) from LG’s marketing team. Just like we heard before, the phone will be known as LG Optimus 2X, launching first on home soil of Korea. While the HDMI-out is awesome (catch the video here), the phone’s main area of interest for you is the nVidia’s 1 Ghz dual-core Tegra 2 processor, which theoretically, makes this one the fastest smartphone on earth right now, at least for the short time until more such phones come.
Let’s go through the final spec sheet (we heard tons of them already!) and get us a knol of what’s up for grabs in year 2011:
- 1 Ghz dual-core processor from the nVidia
- Android 2.2 on board (Will be updated to android 2.3 aka Gingerbread after release)
- 4-inch WVGA Screen (No super AMOLED here as in Nexus S)
- 8 Megapixel camera capable of recording awesome 1080p video (Supports MPEG-4/H.264)
- HDMI mirroring
- DLNA support
- 8 GB memory (expandable up to 32 GB)
- 1500 mAh battery
Surely, LG Optimus 2X boasts a very healthy and robust spec-sheet which truly marks the beginning of a new chapter (or era?) in the smartphone’s race to substitute your PC/laptop/PS/xBox/anything! (By the way, in Jan 2010, the Nexus One took you to flying start with a brand new 1 Ghz processor and now LG Optimus will take it to higher level of “dual-core” 1Ghz processor, are you ready?)
LG Optimus 2X hits Korea next month, Jan 2011, followed soon by other European and Asian markets. LG didn’t take time to announce the price and specific date of the launch. Perhaps, that wasn’t the intention in its so-urgent quest to subdue the whole Nexus S business that opens within 12 hours from now.
Well, all-in-all, you can’t get the LG Optimus 2X this christmas. So, Nexus S remains your best deal, as also the android 2.3 that comes along with it. So, what would you do, buy Nexus S (with android 2.3) or wait for LG Optimus 2X (with android 2.2, to be updated to android 2.3)?
