Where to find the puzzle box after rescuing the Black Dye Merchant

After completing the merchant’s rescue, travel to the Black Dye House, which is just southwest from Sarobetsu Forest, along the cliffs near the Teshio River. The area is now open and marked on your map as “Black Dye House.” Look for the merchant camp and the prominent building labeled Black Dye House.

How to get the Black Dye House Kitsune puzzle box

Step 1

One entering the black dye house finds a tunnel to reach the deep cave and rescue the black dye merchant's family.

Step 2

After rescuing them, find the fox statue, and you will be prompted to move it. As you move it, a rope appears and now you can explore into the caves.

Step 3

Follow through to find an arrow sign. There you will have to crawl under the cave.

Step 4

After entering the cave look out for a way forward.

Step 5

You will find a small way between rocks, squeeze through them to reveal another section of the caves.

Step 6

Grapple your way onto the other side, to find a door. However if you go through this door, you will find yourself back to the point where you began from.

Step 7

Instead locate the ledges around, climb up to the opposite cliff.

Step 8

Find a nine tails statue and door to the guards hideout and hostage cells.

Step 9

Here you will find another door with a symbol, which will directly lead you to the other hostage cells.

Step 10

Before accessing the cell, fight all the guards.

Step 11

As you open the cell, you will see the hostage is already dead. But you can see the Kitsune puzzle house inside the cave.

Step 12

Before you can enter, fight other guards. Position the statues as given below:

Solving the statues on the left side:

  • Don't touch the statue at the back, as it spawns enemies.
  • Face the statue upfront towards right.

Solving the statues on the right side:

  • Face the statue at the back towards left.
  • Face the statue upfront towards right.
Step 13

Once the statues are positioned properly, the locked doors will open, revealing the hidden Kitsune puzzle box. Simply pick it up.

  • Rotate fox statues on pedestals to align facing directions based on given symbols or clues.
