It’s admittedly a bit surprising (in a good way, ofc!) but a new rumor suggests that Apple’s next-generation iPhone SE 4 will sport a rear chassis design identical to that of the upcoming standard iPhone 16 models. The information comes from a prominent Chinese leaker, Fixed Focus Digital, who revealed this detail on the social media platform Weibo.

This also suggests the iPhone SE 4, rumored to arrive in spring 2024, may feature a similar dual camera setup as the iPhone 16.

The leak also has it that the backplate manufacturing process for the iPhone SE 4 is “exactly the same” as the (non-pro) iPhone 16 — so, the rumor about SE 4 using iPhone 14’s back panel may have just lost its ground. One could argue that Apple chose this newer process to achieve economies of scale as iPhone 14 production now winds down. Sure, the wait for iPhone 16 gets even more intolerable.

The upcoming iPhone SE 4 is expected to launch in Spring 2025, with consumers eagerly anticipating a new model that combines flagship features at a lower price point compared to the current third-generation iPhone SE, which was released in March 2022.

Despite aiming for a sub-$500 starting price, likely around $479, the iPhone SE 4 is anticipated to feature several significant upgrades over its predecessor. These improvements include a larger 6.1-inch display, Face ID, and a USB-C port, moving away from the traditional Touch ID and home button to an all-display format with a notch.

The overall design of the iPhone SE 4 is expected to resemble that of the iPhone 14, and it may introduce a multi-function Action button to replace the mute switch, a feature first seen in the iPhone 15 Pro models. Additionally, the device is likely to feature a single-lens camera upgraded to 48 megapixels, aligning with the specifications used in the iPhone 15.

Adopting the iPhone 16’s vertical camera lens arrangement could enable Spatial Video capture for Apple’s Vision Pro headset on the more affordable SE model. However, specific camera details for the iPhone SE 4 remain unclear.

As the release date approaches, more details are expected to emerge about the iPhone SE 4, so stay tuned for updates on this anticipated device.
