Apple is stepping up its iPhone battery management game with the upcoming iOS 18.2 update, it could introduce a feature that can estimate and display exactly how long it will take your iPhone to reach a full charge—or any specific battery level you choose, according to 9to5Mac. This new functionality was spotted in the code for iOS 18.2 beta 2, although it’s not yet available for general users.
This system relies on a framework called “BatteryIntelligence“, which analyzes the power from your charger to provide accurate charging time estimates. Users would be able to set notifications for specific charge levels, like 80%, to get updates on charging progress.
In line with battery health, iOS 18 has already introduced options for users to limit their phone’s maximum charge to levels like 80%, 85%, 90%, or 95%, helping to preserve battery longevity. Currently, these charging limits are available only on iPhone 15 and future iPhone 16 models.
The update could also notify you when your iPhone isn’t charging at optimal speeds. If you’re using a slower charger, your device will display a “slow charger” message and highlight the issue with orange bars on the battery graph.
Apple is expected to release iOS 18.2 in early December, although some of these new features may roll out in later updates. Alongside these battery upgrades, users can look forward to other features, including Siri’s integration with ChatGPT, AI-powered image creation tools, and improved AirTag location sharing.
