What to know
- New reports show iPhone 17 Air will be 5-6mm thick, thinner than earlier 6mm rumors.
- The phone will have one speaker and eSIM-only design due to space constraints.
- It keeps core features like 6.6-inch display and A19 chip despite slim design.
Initial reports claimed Apple would make a 6mm thin iPhone 17 Air, but fresh information shows it will be even slimmer at 5-6mm. This makes it thinner than both current iPhones and the iPad Air.
The phone's slim design means you'll see some changes. There's only one speaker that works as both main speaker and earpiece. You won't find a physical SIM slot - the phone only works with eSIM.
Apple's new 5G modem chip focuses on saving power instead of speed. You won't get the fastest 5G speeds or mmWave support that current phones offer with Qualcomm chips.
The phone still includes the A19 chip, 8GB RAM, and a 6.6-inch screen with 120Hz refresh rate. For photos, you get a 48-megapixel main camera on the back and a 24-megapixel front camera.
The iPhone 17 Air arrives in stores September 2025. While Apple pushes for a thinner design, users might prefer better battery life over a slimmer phone.
