What to know

  • In-island purchases let you spend V-Bucks inside specific Creative islands
  • Items usually work only within the island where you bought them
  • Purchases are final, with limited refund scenarios
  • Creators currently earn 100% of the V-Buck value until early 2027

In-island V-Buck purchases are a newer monetization feature in Fortnite that allows creators to sell gameplay-related content directly inside their custom Creative islands. Instead of going through the Item Shop, you buy these offers while actively playing on an island.

What in-island V-Buck purchases actually are

In-island purchases are transactions embedded directly into a Creative experience. When an island supports them, you’ll see prompts to buy items, access passes, or unlock areas while playing. These are separate from the Battle Pass and the main Fortnite Item Shop.

Unlike cosmetics, which apply across the entire game, in-island items are designed to support custom gameplay loops made by individual creators.

How spending V-Bucks works for players

When you enter a Creative island with purchases enabled, you may encounter kiosks, menus, or interactable objects showing prices in V-Bucks.

You can typically buy:

  • Durable upgrades that persist across sessions on that island
  • Consumable items with limited uses
  • Access passes for areas or modes
  • Randomized rewards tied to island-specific systems

Once you confirm a purchase, it is final. Items usually cannot be refunded and will not appear in other islands or core modes like Battle Royale or Zero Build.

Restrictions and parental controls you should know about

In-island purchases respect Epic’s account-level controls. If you’re playing on a restricted account, certain transaction types—especially randomized or chance-based purchases—may be blocked entirely.

Availability can also vary by region due to local regulations, so not every island offer is guaranteed to appear for every player.

How creators enable in-island purchases

Creators set up in-island purchases using Unreal Editor for Fortnite (UEFN). Items are configured as entitlements and added to an island-specific catalog that players can browse while playing.

To enable monetization, creators must:

  • Be at least 18 years old
  • Be enrolled in the Island Creator Program
  • Publish an island that passes moderation review

Epic handles payment processing and platform fees, so creators don’t manage transactions directly.

Revenue sharing and payout structure

For a limited time, Epic is offering creators a highly favorable split. Through January 31, 2027, creators receive the full V-Buck value of in-island purchases. After that period, the revenue share is expected to shift to a more traditional 50% model.

This structure makes in-island purchases especially attractive for creators building long-term Creative experiences.

Important limitations for Creative Island purchases to keep in mind

In-island purchases cannot be used to sell standard Fortnite cosmetics like outfits or emotes that have no gameplay effect. Those remain exclusive to the Item Shop.

If an island is unpublished or removed for an extended period, Epic may offer refunds in specific edge cases, but this is not guaranteed and does not apply to most situations.

As a player, you’re buying into an experience rather than your overall locker, so understanding where and how items work is key before spending.
