Every time Google release the next major update of Android, it triggers a flurry of leaked firmware and ROMs for different devices. The manufacturers start working on updating their devices to the new version of Android, and more often than not, beta or test versions of these firmware are leaked on the internet, giving people a chance to try the new version of Android before it is officially released for their device.
And ever since the release of Android 4.0 aka Ice Cream Sandwich, these firmware leaks became doubly special because Ice Cream Sandwich is probably the best version of Android till date, so people jump at the chance of trying it out on their devices which is made possible by these leaked firmware. We’ve seen Android 4.0 firmware leaks coming up for different devices each and every day, which users lap up without hesitation.
The Verizon Droid RAZR XT912 just received another leaked Android 4.0 firmware, thanks to XDA member mydoom, who got his hands on ICS firmware for both the XT912 and the China-only XT910 model. Well, before you go ninja on that phone of yours in hopes of flashing the firmware on your phone, hold your horses as the firmware is not flashable due to the bootloaders on the Droid RAZR being locked. It’s best to hold on for the modding community to come up with custom versions of the firmware that can be flashed from ClockworkMod recovery (or Safestrap/Bootstrap recovery in the RAZR’s case).
To be honest, a working custom version of the firmware should be pretty close by because as you probably know, the community never sleeps! We’ll keep an eye out for future updates and will let you know as and when we have more info, so stay tuned!
