What to know
-
Look for very deep, clear-blue water near icy/cold regions rather than shallow shores.
-
You can descend without diving gear by carving small air pockets into underwater walls when oxygen runs low.
-
The ocean floor can spawn truckloads of gold and silver ore plus rare crystals/gems, with iron also appearing sometimes.
-
Repeating the air-pocket + sweep-mining loop lets you scale the haul quickly in just a few minutes.
Underwater mining is one of the simplest “get rich” patterns in Hytale because it combines high-value ore density with safer conditions than deep underground routes. The key is picking the right ocean and then turning the descent into a controlled series of oxygen resets so you can mine longer and travel farther.
Location: Picking the right ocean
The method starts before you even jump into the water. You want depth and clarity, because the strategy depends on reaching the ocean floor and then covering a lot of ground down there. The recommended targets are cold/icy regions, such as Devastated Lands, Borea, and Zone 3 areas with ice caps or glaciers.
Focus on areas that are “as clear blue as possible” with no land before it.

Not shallow water as shown below (with land).

Aim for big drops where you can keep descending and still have underwater walls/edges nearby to carve air pockets into.
How to get rich quickly in Hytale (underwater mining)
This is the full loop – Drop in, descend, create air pockets when needed, reach the ocean floor, then mine everything valuable you see while continuing to place air pockets to extend your route. The full steps are given below:
Step 1: Head to a cold-region deep ocean
Open your map and head toward cold-region coastlines/biomes that lead into deep water (devastated lands, borea, or Zone 3 ice caps/glaciers). Prioritize very deep, clear-blue water and avoid shallow areas.
Step 2: Jump in and start your descent
Once you find the right spot, jump in and begin swimming down toward the bottom. You don’t need diving equipment for this method.

Step 3: Ignore underwater creatures, but watch oxygen
You don’t need to play around underwater enemies for this route because hostile underwater creatures currently don’t exist in terms of harming you, but lack of oxygen can kill you. Keep the oxygen bar as your real timer.
Step 4: Create an emergency air pocket when oxygen runs low
When oxygen gets low, swim to the edge – underwater wall – and mine out a small space to form an air pocket.

Keep it two blocks high and one block deep, and sometimes you’ll need to go one block deeper—about four blocks total—to create a reliable pocket.

Step 5: Repeat air pockets to safely reach the ocean floor
Continue descending in stages – swim down, then whenever oxygen gets tight, carve another air pocket into a nearby wall. Keep doing this until you reach the ocean floor.

Step 6: Sweep the ocean floor for high-value spawns
On the ocean floor, start scanning and mining everything valuable you find – this is where the truckloads of gold and silver ore spawn, alongside rare crystals. Iron can appear too, so you’ll sometimes pick it up as a bonus while you’re there.

Step 7: Place air pockets along your route so you can keep pushing forward
As you move along the ocean floor, keep creating air pockets along the way so you can mine longer without retreating to the surface. The goal is to turn the entire floor into a route you can travel and mine aggressively.
Step 8: Watch for gems and crystal shards while mining
While farming gold and silver, keep your eyes open for gem-related spawns and crystal shards, including emerald-related spawns with green crystal shards and sapphire spawns with blue crystal shards. Rare gems can show up underwater too, so staying observant increases your payout per run.

Step 9: Repeat short runs to scale your wealth fast
The strategy scales because even a couple minutes of mining can produce a strong haul, and you can immediately repeat the loop in the same region or nearby deep-water areas.

If you want a reliable “rich quick” routine in Hytale, make deep-ocean floor sweeps your default early wealth loop. Choose clear-blue deep water in cold regions, descend using carved air pockets, then mine everything on the floor while chaining more air pockets to extend your run. Once you get consistent at placing air pockets, you’ll spend less time traveling and more time extracting gold, silver, and gem spawns in one continuous route.
