Huawei fans are not new to the company’s huge collection of pocket-friendly smartphones that are usually part of the Y series. Among this year’s series is the Huawei Y7 Prime 2019, a device that goes by the name Huawei Enjoy 9 back at home in China.
By virtue of being a budget phone, the Huawei Y7 Prime 2019 is a phone you’ll find in developing markets. The phone comes with a beautiful notched display screen that is quite expansive, but to keep its affordable status, Huawei went with an HD resolution. There is a dual-lens camera on the back, where the second sensor is meant for depth-sensing, a character needed for taking portrait shots.
Here is a summary of the specs.
Huawei Y7 Prime 2019 specs
- 6.26-inch 19:9 HD+ (1520 x 720) LCD display
- Qualcomm Snapdragon 450 processor
- 3GB RAM
- 32GB expandable storage, up to 512GB
- Dual 13MP + 2MP main camera
- 16MP front camera
- 4000mAh battery
- Android 8.1 Oreo
- Extras: Bluetooth 4.2, 3.5mm audio jack, Rear-mounted fingerprint scanner, microUSB port, 5V/2A 10W charging, etc.
Huawei Y7 Prime 2018 was powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 processor and inside the 2019 edition is an improved Snapdragon 450 chipset mated to the same amount of RAM and storage. But this time, you can expand the storage by up to 512GB.
Photography and battery
Perhaps the most significant change that Huawei Y7 Prime 2019 brings over its predecessor is the battery, where the new model has a monstrous 4000mAh unit that promises more than a day of single use.
The battery-sipping HD display resolution should also help improve battery life. While the pre-installed Android Oreo has a good number of battery-saving features, it is the anticipated update to Android Pie that should tag along even more battery-saving features – all of which should help milk more life from the 4000mAh unit.
The fact that its an entry-level device means it misses out on fast charging technology, but you get 5V/2A 10W charging technology that delivers the maximum amount of any standard charger. This should slightly lessen the time it takes to fill this massive battery.
Moving onto photography, the Huawei Y7 Prime 2019 has a dual 13MP + 2MP camera on the back supported by an impressive 16MP shooter on the front, twice the megapixel count on the 2018 edition. In terms of software, EMUI 8.2 based on Android 8.1 Oreo runs the show out of the box. The phone can be had in color variants of Aurora Blue, Midnight Black, and Coral Red.
Pricing and availability
As we already noted, Huawei’s Y series is a target for the price sensitive market, hence the modest price tag of under $200. There is no info about the launch of the Huawei Y7 Prime 2019 in markets such as India, but the phone is already available for purchase in several markets globally, mostly in Asia and Africa.
