Over the past couple of months, Samsung and HTC have been sharing out most of the spotlight between them with no room for a third. However, LG just came knocking when it shared details of its own flagships right after Samsung and HTC unveiled theirs at the MWC. Following the practice of smartphone manufacturers adding new devices to their existing series, LG’s newest offering will succeed the G3 as part of the G series.

According to Cho Juno who heads the mobile division at LG mobile, the G4 will emulate the Galaxy S6 in a couple of ways. First off, the plastic body is likely to be a foregone conclusion with the company giving precedence to a metal one — A decision which somehow fails to surprise us, considering almost all other manufacturers have already let go of the widely unpopular plastic. Next, instead of Qualcomm’s Snapdragon, the G4 is likely to manufacture and employ a self made chipset which again falls in line with the inclination of most smartphone manufacturers to gain more autonomy in this particular area.

While LG may or may not have taken a few pointers from Samsung’s brand new smartphones, its certainly impressed by them. According to a statement by Mr. Juno “Samsung did a very good job with the Galaxy S6 smartphone. I believe our G4 will also be good. With higher expectations, LG put huge resources into the LG G4,

In another official statement he managed to drop a few hints about the release schedule for the device “We will announce LG UX 4.0 before announcing the LG G4. I think it is simply the best and the issue is how to best fit the new UX system into the G4 smartphone” . The UX — if you remember — is what LG likes to call its user interface which debuted with the LG G3. So the next time you hear anything about the LG UX –which may be sometime in April — you would do well to perk up your ears, because in all probability the G4 is not far behind.

In the meanwhile, Soothe your eyes by taking a look at the concept images of the G4 that we have managed to lay our hands on.
