While HTC is eagerly awaited to unveil the One M9+ at the April 8 launch event in China, the firm has announced a smartphone called One M8s. This new device can be positioned between the mid-range and flagship smartphones launched by the firm. The device resembles the yesteryear flagship smartphone One M8.

The One M8s boasts of a 5 inch Full HD 1080p display and utilizes a 1.7 GHz octa core Snapdragon 615 processor under its hood paired with 2 GB of RAM. There is 16 GB of native storage space that can be expanded using a micro SD card.

Running on Android 5.0 Lollipop with Sense UI, the device has ditched the UltraPixel snapper at its back for a 13 MP main snapper with f/2.0 aperture and a 5 MP front facer to click selfies and make video calls. The One M8s is powered by a 2,840 mAh battery operating under its hood.

In terms of availability, the HTC One M8s is slated to launch in several parts of Europe later this month with varying price tags depending on the region. In United Kingdom the device will be priced at £379.99. The other markets will receive the smartphone later.

Being a variant of the One M8, the latest offering from HTC uses a slower octa core Snapdragon 615 chipset instead of the 2.3 GHz quad core Snapdragon 801 processor. Also, the device has ditched the UltraPixel camera for a 13 MP snapper as mentioned above. However, the battery used in the One M8s is juicer at 2,840 mAh, whereas the one in the One M8 is a 2,600 mAh battery. Other specifications on both the smartphones are quite identical.
