“Guess what’s flying into town soon?” That’s the question HTC India is asking on its Facebook page, and yes, you guessed it right – this is nothing but an official teaser that the HTC Butterfly will soon be making its way to markets countrywide.
The HTC Butterfly is the first smartphone with a full HD display to be launched in the smartphone industry, and shall become the first 1080p smartphone to be launched in India as well. The Super LCD3 screen on the front measures 5-inches in size and sports a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels and a pixel density of 441 ppi, which is no doubt its most appealing and desirable feature.
Under the hood, the HTC Butterfly is powered by a Snapdragon S4 Pro quad-core processor at 1.5GHz, along with 2GB of RAM, which combined with the beautiful display make the Butterfly one of the most compelling Android smartphones ever made. There’s still a debate going on as to how the Snapdragon S4 Pro will hold up with that screen resolution, specially in games, but general non-gaming usage is a smooth and responsive affair.
Other specs include an 8 megapixel rear camera, 2.1 megapixel front camera, 16GB of on-board storage expandable via a microSD card, connectivity features like Wi-Fi, HSPA, Bluetooth 4.0, DLNA, microUSB 2.0 with MHL for USB or HDMI connection, and a 2020 mAh battery. The Butterfly runs on Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, along with HTC’s Sense 4+ UI customization.
Price and Release Date
You’ll probably be wondering exactly how much the HTC Butterfly will cost with such an awesome spec sheet, and I’m afraid it’s not all good news in that regard. According to BGR, HTC will be launching the Butterfly at a whopping MRP of Rs 49,900, making it the most expensive Android smartphone the Indian market has seen.
The street pricing is expected to be a bit lower at around Rs. 45,000, but that will still tie it with the iPhone 5, and considering HTC doesn’t enjoy the same fan following as Apple (or even Samsung), they might not see too many units flying off shelves.
As for the release date, HTC is expected to both officially announce and launch the Butterfly in the next two to three weeks, and judging by the teaser on Facebook, we can expect a February launch at the very least. We’ll of course be sure to let you guys know all details on pricing and release date when HTC decides to tell, so stay tuned!
So, who’s lining up to buy the HTC Butterfly when it launches?
