What to know

  • Gear “upgrades” in Hytale mean unlocking higher tiers (copper → iron → thorium → cobalt → adamantite → Mithril) at special crafting stations.
  • You need a furnace to smelt ores into ingots, which are used to craft and upgrade gear.
  • The armorer’s workbench is for armor; the blacksmith’s anvil is for weapons.
  • To craft higher‑tier gear, you must upgrade these stations to higher tiers using specific materials.

In Hytale, better gear is unlocked by upgrading your crafting stations, not individual items. This guide explains how gear tiers progress from Copper and Iron to Thorium, Cobalt, Adamantite, and Mithril, and shows you exactly how to upgrade the Armorer’s Workbench and Blacksmith’s Anvil to access the best armor and weapons.

How to upgrade the Armorer’s Workbench

The Armorer’s Workbench lets you craft armor sets. To unlock higher‑tier armor, you must upgrade the workbench to higher tiers.

Step 1: Place the Armorer’s Workbench

Craft an Armorer’s Workbench and set it up in your base. Once placed, interact with it to open the crafting menu, at this stage, you’ll only have access to basic copper and iron armor recipes.

Step 2: Upgrade to tier 2

Upgrade the Armorer’s Workbench to Tier 2 to unlock Thorium and Cobalt armor crafting. This upgrade requires x20 Copper Ingots, x20 Bone Fragments, x20 Medium Leather, and x100 Azure Logs. After upgrading, the new Thorium and Cobalt armor recipes will appear in the workbench menu.

How to upgrade the Blacksmith’s Anvil for weapons

The Blacksmith’s Anvil is where you craft weapons. Like the Armorer’s Workbench, it starts limited and must be upgraded.

Step 1: Place the Blacksmith’s Anvil

Craft a Blacksmith’s Anvil and place it in your base. When you interact with it, you’ll initially only have access to basic Copper and Iron weapon recipes, such as swords.

Step 3: Upgrade to tier 3

Upgrade the Blacksmith’s Anvil to Tier 3 to unlock Adamantite and Mithril weapons. Once upgraded, you’ll be able to craft the best weapons at this station.

How to get the materials

To upgrade your stations and craft high‑tier gear, you’ll need:

  • Ores and ingots: Mine Copper, Iron, Thorium, Cobalt, Adamantite, and Mithril ores, then smelt them in a furnace.
  • Leather and hides: Hunt animals for leather (light, medium) and Bone Fragments.
  • Logs: Chop down trees, especially special types like Azure logs.
  • Special drops: Collect items like Linen Scraps and Venom Sacks from enemies or crafting.

Gear progression in Hytale

Upgrading your gear in Hytale is all about upgrading your crafting stations. The Armorer’s Workbench controls armor progression, while the Blacksmith’s Anvil determines the weapons you can craft. You’ll begin with Copper and Iron, then collect the required materials to push each station to Tier 2 and Tier 3, unlocking Thorium, Cobalt, Adamantite, and Mithril gear along the way. Once both stations are fully upgraded, you’ll have access to the strongest armor and weapons Hytale has to offer.
