What to know
- Horses exist in the world and can be used as mounts
- Traditional taming mechanics are not implemented in the current build
- Animal interaction relies on attraction and capture tools instead of loyalty systems
- Full taming, breeding, and training are planned for future updates
If you’re exploring Hytale right now, you’ll encounter horses naturally spawning in suitable biomes. They are peaceful creatures and are already integrated into the game’s broader wildlife system. While you can interact with and ride them, the process does not resemble classic taming systems seen in other sandbox games.
There is no progression-based bonding, feeding loop, or trust meter tied to horses at this stage. Instead, mounted behavior is handled as a basic interaction feature rather than a domestication mechanic.

Can you tame a horse in Hytale
Right now, Hytale does not support traditional taming where animals become loyal through repeated feeding or interaction. Tools such as feed-based attraction items or containment crates are designed to help you move or manage animals, not to permanently tame them.
This means that while you may guide or ride a horse, you are not forming a lasting bond or ownership state tied to that animal.
NOTE: Mounted behavior and control (like pressing a key to climb onto a horse) might work differently from traditional taming systems until official taming is added.
How to interact with horses in Hytale right now
- Explore open biomes where wildlife commonly spawns and look for horses roaming peacefully.
- Approach carefully, as horses are neutral and may wander away if startled.
- Use available interaction controls to mount the horse if conditions allow.
- Ride the horse using basic movement inputs; advanced control or training options are not yet present.
Planned animal taming systems
Based on official design discussions and developer-facing documentation, animal systems are expected to expand significantly. Horses are planned to support deeper mechanics such as feeding-based taming, long-term ownership, training, and breeding.
These features are part of Hytale’s long-term sandbox vision but are intentionally not active in the current release phase.
