What to know
- The Blue Mist means your base core is infected, not permanently lost
- The infection always comes from a visible cyst attached to the base core
- Destroying the cyst is mandatory before disinfection is possible
- Once cleared, full base functionality is restored
Blue Mist (also called the infection cloud) is a core survival mechanic that temporarily disables safe base operations in StarRupture. It looks intimidating, but it follows a clear cause-and-effect loop designed to be reversed by the player.
Blue mist & cyst issue in StarRupture - all fixes
| Phase | What happens | What you need to do |
|---|---|---|
| Infection appears | Blue mist surrounds the base | Search the base core |
| Infection source | A cyst grows on the core | Destroy the cyst |
| Cleanup window | Mist begins fading | Interact with the core |
| Recovery | Base fully restored | Resume building and defense |
What the Blue Mist actually does to your base
When the infection triggers, a blue-purple fog surrounds your base core area. While active, it suppresses shields, blocks building placement and dismantling, and attracts hostile creatures. Your base remains usable at a minimum level, but efficiency and safety drop sharply until the infection is cleared.

Where the Blue Mist infection is located in StarRupture Base
The infection always manifests as a physical growth on the base core itself or along its vertical structure. It can appear halfway up the tower, behind panels, or partially obscured by the mist, so scanning the entire core from bottom to top is essential before assuming it is missing.

How to fix an infected base core step by step
Step 1: Secure the area around the base
Clear nearby enemies first. Hostiles often patrol infected bases and can interrupt the process while you are aiming at the cyst or interacting with the core.

Step 2: Find the infection cyst
Look for a glowing blue or bluish-purple growth attached to the base core. It may resemble a blister, ball, or organic lump. If visibility is poor, circle the core slowly and check elevated sections.

Step 3: Destroy the cyst completely
Use any ranged weapon or harvesting beam and focus fire on the cyst until it breaks. Partial damage is not enough—the growth must disappear entirely for the mist to begin clearing.

Step 4: Wait for the mist to recede
After the cyst is destroyed, the Blue Mist does not vanish instantly. Give it a short moment to thin out and fade. Shield behavior should normalize as this happens.

Step 5: Disinfect the base core
Once the mist has mostly cleared, stand next to the base core and interact with it. Hold the interaction key until the disinfection progress completes. This finalizes the cleanup.

Common issues while disinfecting base core & how to handle them
- If you cannot find the cyst, it is almost always higher up the core structure or hidden by visual effects. Slowly rotate around the tower and check all sides.
- If the mist visually remains after destroying the cyst and disinfecting, it is usually a visual glitch. Reloading the save resolves it in most cases.
Why clearing Blue Mist should be a priority
An infected base is unusable, inefficient, and dangerous over time. Clearing the infection restores normal shield behavior, unlocks building controls, and stops repeated enemy pressure around your core, making it safe to expand and automate again.
