What to know

  • Place a lure/feed bag on the ground near the animal you want to tame, such as a rabbit.
  • When hearts appear above the animal’s head, it is tamed and will stop running away from you.
  • Use a capture crate from the farmer’s workbench to pick up the tamed animal with a simple left-click.
  • Different animals may need different feeds (rabbits: feed bag, chickens: corn, sheep: lettuce), and not every animal will respond.

Right after you unlock farming tools, lure bags and capture crates let you safely tame and transport animals instead of chasing them around open fields in Hytale. Here is a complete guide to lure and capture animals.

Crafting Feed Bag in Hytale

Before luring anything, you need both a Feed Bag and at least one Capture Crate. Craft or obtain a Feed Bag suitable for the animal you want to tame (wheat Feed Bag for rabbits, corn for chickens, lettuce for sheep).

Use the Farmer’s Workbench to craft a Capture Crate, which is required to actually collect the animal once it is tamed.

How to lure animals with a Feed Bag in Hytale

Follow the steps below to tame animals with ease using a Feed Bag in Hytale:

Step 1: Place the lure bag near the animal

Put the lure bag down on the ground close to the animal you want to affect, such as a rabbit wandering nearby.

Step 2: Watch for heart icons

After you place the bag, look for love hearts appearing above the animal’s head, which indicate that the animal has been successfully tamed and is no longer afraid of you.

Step 3: Test the animal’s new behavior

Move or even sprint around the animal to confirm that it has stopped running away and now stays calm near you.

Step 4: Capture the animal

Once the lure has worked, equip your capture crate (crafted at the Farmer’s Workbench), walk up to the tamed animal, and left-click it to instantly store the animal inside the crate so you can move it wherever you need.

Step 5: Repeat if a lure fails

If an animal still runs away or never shows hearts, assume the lure did not work for that individual and simply try the same process on a different animal of the same type.

Choose the right feed for each animal in Hytale

Not every creature in Hytale reacts to the same lure or food, so using the correct item is essential for successful taming.

  • Rabbits are attracted to the Wheat Feed Bag.
  • Chickens require Corn.
  • Sheep respond to Lettuce.

Always match the food to the species you’re trying to tame, or the animal won’t approach the lure.

Tips for luring Animals successfully

  • Place Feed Bags near pens or posts so animals are easier to enclose once they arrive.
  • Use terrain funnels or paths (like narrow gaps between fences) to guide movement.
  • Holding food items directly (like wheat or vegetables) can also attract animals temporarily while you herd them short distances. This is useful if a Feed Bag is not yet crafted.

What Feed Bags do not do

  • Feed Bags do not tame animals or make them pets.
  • Animals attracted to Feed Bags can still wander off if not enclosed.
  • They do not trigger breeding or domestication behaviors in the current Early Access version.

Animal luring in Hytale

Once you learn which feed works for each animal and pair it with a capture crate, you can reliably tame and transport rabbits, chickens, sheep, and many other creatures. This makes building and managing your Hytale homestead far easier, and a lot more rewarding as your farm grows.
