What to know
- Tree sap is obtained by cutting down trees with an axe; it drops alongside wood and sticks.
- It’s a common early-game resource used in simple recipes like torches and basic tools.
- No special biome or tree type is required — any normal forest tree will give sap.
- You can’t “tap” trees like in some survival games; just break the tree trunk blocks to collect sap.
When you start a new Hytale world, one of the first things you’ll do is cut down a few trees to gather basic materials. As you chop the trunk blocks with your axe, you’ll automatically receive wood, sticks, and a small amount of tree sap from each tree.
How to get Tree Sap
Follow the steps below to know how to get Tree Sap in Hytale with ease:
Step 1: Craft or find an hatchet
If you don’t already have one, craft a basic axe using sticks and stone (or wood, depending on the recipe) at your workbench or in your inventory crafting grid. You can also find axes in early chests or from NPCs in the hub world.

Step 2: Find a forest or wooded area
Look for any normal forest biome with trees, no special biome is needed. Even the trees near your spawn point will work fine for gathering sap early on.

Step 3: Chop the tree and collect sap
Use your axe to break the tree trunk from the bottom up. As it falls apart, pick up the dropped wood, sticks, and tree sap, usually 1–3 sap per tree.

Step 4: Use or store sap
Open your inventory or workbench and use tree sap in early recipes, like torches or simple tools. Keep a small stack in your inventory for crafting, and farm more trees whenever you run low.
Where to find and use Tree Sap
Tree sap comes from chopping down normal trees found in most overworld biomes, including forests, plains with scattered trees, and areas around villages or ruins. There’s no special tree type, any standard deciduous or coniferous tree can drop sap along with wood and sticks. Tree sap is mainly used in early- and mid-game crafting, such as making torches (sap + stick), basic tool bindings or handles, simple consumables like sticky traps or adhesives, and certain alchemy or tinkerer recipes. Check your recipe book or workbench to see all available uses at your current progression stage.
How to farm Tree Sap efficiently
- Chop multiple trees at once
Instead of cutting one tree and moving far away, clear a small patch of forest so you can quickly gather sap, wood, and sticks from several trees in one spot. - Use a better axe
Upgrade to a stone or iron axe to break tree blocks faster, which lets you farm more trees (and more sap) in less time. - Plant saplings nearby
Save some saplings from leaves and plant them near your base; this creates a renewable source of trees (and sap) without having to travel far. - Automate with a farm (late game)
In later progression, some mods or advanced mechanics may let you set up tree farms that auto-harvest trees, giving a steady supply of sap along with wood and other drops.
Farming Tree Sap
Tree sap in Hytale is straightforward: just chop down normal trees with an axe, and it will drop along with wood and sticks. There’s no special tapping mechanic or rare tree type — it’s meant to be an easy early resource so you can quickly craft torches, tools, and other basics.
