What to know

  • You must complete the early-story questline that unlocks the mount system before acquiring any horse.
  • There are three main ways to get a horse: stealing, taming, or buying.
  • Each method offers different types of horses with varying strengths and convenience.
  • Once obtained, you can summon any horse using the mount hotkey on your toolbar.

Horses are essential for fast travel in Where Winds Meet, especially when you’re exploring large regions or moving between quests.

Once you unlock the mount feature after completing For Whom Does He Return quest, the game gives you multiple options to obtain your first horse — some free, some earned, and some purchasable.

Below is every current method, explained simply so you can choose the one that fits your playstyle.

How to steal a horse from NPC

Make sure you’ve completed the main-quest that unlocks mounts (after “For Whom Does He Return”).

Find an NPC riding a horse — typically on roads, open paths, or traveling caravans.

Approach until you see the “Snatch Horse” prompt (on PC likely F).

Activate the prompt, then run away quickly. If you manage to get enough distance, the horse becomes yours permanently.

How to tame a wild horse

Locate wild horses in known spawn areas (for example, near ranches or open wilderness).

Sneak up quietly — crouch and approach from behind so you don’t scare the horse away. Using stealth or stealth-type abilities helps.

Interact to begin the taming minigame. Watch the on-screen prompts (directional keys) and respond correctly until the horse tires. If you succeed the minigame, the horse is tamed and added to your mount collection permanently.

How to buy a horse

Go to a horse merchant (e.g. a ranch or stable in game). Some known places: ranch-type merchants in Wildmane Ranch in Sundara Land.

Alternatively, check the in-game shop/cash shop for available mounts (especially premium or special horses).

How to sell a horse

Travel to Wildmane Ranch and talk to Wen Pu to sell a horse.

Which method to pick — pros/cons

  • Stealing from NPCs: fast, free, immediate — but risky (you may get chased) and limited by chance of finding a horse-riding NPC.
  • Taming wild horses: more satisfying, gives a free horse, and lets you pick from wild spawns — but requires stealth and success in minigame.
  • Buying: easiest guaranteed method, and you can often get high-tier or special horses — but may involve spending in-game or premium currency.

Whether you prefer a free, fast, or stylish option, Where Winds Meet gives you multiple ways to obtain your horse. Stealing and taming provide early-game mobility at no cost, while merchants and the shop offer guaranteed or cosmetic options. Once you unlock the mount system, getting your first horse is quick and flexible regardless of your approach.
