What to know

  • Start Dead Man’s Treasure by talking to the quest NPC in the pirate treasure room inside Pirate Cove in Fisch.

  • The quest requires four hidden letters that only drop from Pirate Cove chests on Pirate Cove Island.

  • Chests spawn randomly around Pirate Cove Island, and each chest has a chance to give letters, doubloons, or other loot.

  • You may need many chest respawns and server hops before you get all four letters, so expect a grind.

Right after you unlock Pirate Cove, Dead Man’s Treasure becomes one of the most grind-heavy but important quests, because the reward is needed for crafting the endgame Dead Man’s Rod.

How to start the Dead Man’s Treasure quest

Once you reach Pirate Cove content, you need to trigger the quest before letter drops will matter.

Step 1: Enter Pirate Cove and find the treasure room

Head to the Pirate Cove area (unlocked through the Pirate Cove update progression in Fisch) and look for the pirate treasure room, a themed room with pirate loot and the Dead Man’s Treasure quest NPC inside.

Confirm the objective text shows that you must find four letters hidden in Pirate Cove chests, which means letter drops will now count for the quest.

How to reach Pirate Cove chests quickly

Your main grind takes place on Pirate Cove Island, where the special chests spawn.

Step 1: Travel to Pirate Cove Island

Use the boat to reach Pirate Cove Island, the surface island associated with the Pirate Cove update.

Once you arrive, move inland and start scanning the main paths, beaches, rocks, and elevated areas where chests can appear.

Step 2: Learn how Pirate Cove chests spawn

Understand that Pirate Cove chests spawn randomly around the island and their exact locations differ per server, so there are no fixed coordinates you can permanently rely on. Each server can place chests in different spots, so exploring the entire island loop gives you the best chance of spotting spawns.

How to farm letters from Pirate Cove chests

Letters are RNG-based, so you’ll be opening many chests.

Step 1: Open every Pirate Cove chest you see

Whenever you spot a Pirate Cove chest, interact with it and open it immediately, since each chest has a chance to contain a letter, doubloons, potions, or other random items. If you don’t get a letter, just move on and keep searching, because you are racing chest respawn timers and competing with other players for spawns.

Step 2: Understand the random letter drops

Expect that you will not get a letter from every chest; sometimes you will only see doubloons or consumables inside.Because the quest needs four letters, you must keep opening chests repeatedly until you collect all four, and duplicate letters can happen depending on the implementation, increasing grind time.

Step 3: Use respawns and server hopping to speed up

Chests respawn on a timer, so once you clear the island of visible chests, you can either wait for respawns or hop to a new server where chests are fresh. You can also run an island loop, open all chests, then switch servers to avoid waiting long periods for the next set of chests to appear.

Step 4: Track your quest progress carefully

Check your quest log or the quest tracking UI after each letter drop to ensure the counter for the Dead Man’s Treasure quest is updating. Keep going until all four required letters show as collected, which means you are ready to complete the quest.

How to turn in Dead Man’s Treasure and claim rewards

After getting all four letters, the final steps take you back to the quest giver.

Step 1: Return to the pirate treasure room

Travel back from Pirate Cove Island to the pirate treasure room where you originally started the Dead Man’s Treasure quest. Make sure the quest is marked as ready to turn in, otherwise you may still be missing a letter and should double-check your quest entries.

Step 2: Talk to the quest NPC to complete

Interact with the same NPC again, go through the completion dialog, and confirm the quest finishes. You will then receive the Dead Man’s Treasure item, which later serves as one of the key ingredients—along with Dead Man’s Tentacle, Dead Man’s Wood, and Putrid Seaweed—for crafting Dead Man’s Rod at the Ancient Archives crafting anvil.

Dead Man’s Treasure quest rewards

Exact numeric values can change with balancing patches, but the key reward stays consistent.

Reward type Details
Quest completion Dead Man’s Treasure item (unique quest reward used in later crafting)
Progression Unlocks progress toward Dead Man’s Rod, an endgame rod crafted in Ancient Archives after collecting all Dead Man components and paying 5,000,000 coins.
Extra loot (while farming) Doubloons, potions, and other treasure items from Pirate Cove chests while you hunt letters.

Dead Man’s Treasure in Fisch is mostly a patience test, since letter drops are random and tied to Pirate Cove chest spawns. If you stay persistent, route the island efficiently, and use server hopping, you can secure the Dead Man’s Treasure item and move one step closer to crafting the powerful Dead Man’s Rod.
