In Green Hell, Metal armor is an end‑game gear that you forge from iron using molds, then combine three metal casts with a banana leaf and rope to craft each armor piece. It offers the strongest limb protection but takes time, fuel, and space to produce.
Right after finishing basic stick armor or bone armor, you can start transitioning into metal by setting up a dedicated forge area and stockpiling iron, mud bricks, and charcoal. The whole process can feel a bit tedious. But if you follow along with our guide, it'll be quick and easy.
Materials required to craft Metal armor
- Banana Leaf - x1
- Metal Armor Cast - x3
- Rope - x2
Apart from them materials, you will also need to build a forge. Having metal armor casts will also require iron for smelting as well as molds.
How to prepare your forge and materials
Building and fueling the mud forge
Once the forge blueprint is unlocked in your notebook, you can place and build it at your base. Placing it near water and mud makes brick production easier and reduces the walking you need to do.

Build the mud forge using 5 long sticks and 6 mud bricks from the notebook’s fire section.

Place it under cover if possible so rain does not constantly extinguish your fire.

Fuel it with charcoal or coal, which burn longer than regular firewood and are recommended for multiple smelts.

Getting iron for smelting
To even start on metal armor, you need a reliable iron supply. You can get this from:
Iron ore veins in caves, mined with a pickaxe to drop raw ore chunks.

Empty cans found in camps and story locations, which can be smelted into melted iron in the forge.

Smelt ore or cans in the forge until they turn into melted iron ore items, then take them off the forge for use in molds.

How to create molds and metal armor casts
Making empty molds from mud bricks
Empty molds are the base for all metal tools and armor. Creating them is simple once you have a mud station going.
Craft mud bricks from mud and use them to build or dry as normal.

Right‑click a finished mud brick in your inventory and choose Harvest to break it into 3 empty molds.

Crafting armor molds
Armor molds define the shape of the metal you want to cast into armor pieces. This is where you convert raw iron into armor‑specific molds.
Step 1
Open the crafting mat and place 1 melted iron ore on it.

Step 2
Add 1 empty mold to the mat with the melted iron.

Step 3
Add 1 stick (or a piece of bone armor in some recipes) to define it as an armor mold.
Step 4
Craft this combination to create an armor mold item ready for baking in the forge.

Baking armor molds into metal armor casts
Once you have an armor mold, you need to fire it in the forge to turn it into usable metal strips.
Step 5
Place the armor mold into the active mud forge with enough coal/charcoal to keep it burning for several in‑game hours.

Step 6
Wait for the forging process to complete; the mold will visually change and can be removed when done.

Step 7
Remove the finished armor mold from the forge and harvest it in your inventory to break it open.

Step 8
Receive 2 metal armor casts from each finished armor mold; these are the metal strips you use for armor.

Since each armor piece needs 3 metal armor casts, you must run at least 6 armor molds to get 12 casts for a full four‑piece set.
Final metal armor recipe on the crafting mat
With metal armor casts ready, you can finally assemble each armor piece.
Step 9
Collect 1 banana leaf, 2 rope, and 3 metal armor casts in your inventory.
Step 10
Open the crafting mat, place the banana leaf first, then add the 3 metal armor casts.
Step 11
Add 2 rope to the mat and craft the combination to produce one metal armor piece (for a single limb).

Repeat this process four times to fully armor both arms and both legs; that uses 4 banana leaves, 8 rope, and 12 metal armor casts total.

Equipping metal armor on your character
Once crafted, you must manually equip the armor to gain protection.
Step 12
Open the body inspection screen and rotate to view each limb.
Step 13
Drag the metal armor piece from your inventory onto the appropriate limb slot (arm or leg).
Step 14
Check durability bars and replace or recraft when they get low, especially before long expeditions or combat.
Once you understand the mold cycle—smelt iron, harvest mud bricks, craft armor molds, bake them, then combine banana leaf, rope, and metal casts—metal armor becomes a repeatable late‑game routine rather than a mystery. If you build your forge near caves and keep a steady supply of mud bricks and charcoal, you can keep yourself fully covered in metal and explore Green Hell with much more confidence.
