How to Change Gemini Live Voices

What to know

  • Gemini Live has 10 different voices to choose from.
  • You can change Gemini Live’s voice from Gemini app > profile icon > Settings > Gemini’s voice.
  • The “Gemini’s voice” setting is available only if your default language is set to English (United States).
  • Set default language from the Google app > profile icon > Settings > Google Assistant > Languages.

Gemini Live is the new feature on Google’s revamped digital assistant that lets you converse with it just as naturally as you would with a human.

Being a voice-first feature, the tone and timbre of the voice matters, especially if you’re going to engage with it frequently. Thankfully, Gemini Live offers 10 different voices for you to choose from. These are – Nova, Vega, Ursa, Pegasus, Capella, Eclipse, Dipper, Orion, Lyra, and Orbit.

Changing Gemini’s Voice is easy enough.

  1. Open the Gemini app, tap on the profile icon in the top right corner, and select Settings.
  2. In Gemini Settings, tap on Gemini’s voice and check out the voices. Swipe to the voice you like and it’ll be set automatically. Simply go back to confirm.

Gemini Live is available to Gemini Advanced subscribers. But there’s another requirement – you need to set your default Google Assistant language to English (United States).

So if you can’t find the ‘Gemini’s voice’ option in Gemini settings, make sure to change the default language. Here’s how to do so:

  1. Open the Google app. Tap on the profile icon and select Settings.
  2. Select Google Assistant and tap on Languages.
  3. Tap on the current language to change it. Select English (United States).

After this, return to the Gemini Settings (as shown before) and you’ll see the ‘Gemini’s voices’ option appear immediately.

Having English (United States) set as the default language is a curious requirement, especially since the Capella voice is clearly British.

We expect Gemini’s voice to get an update that will remove English (United States) as a requirement so that it makes more sense. We’ll be sure to update you whenever that happens. Until next time!
