Xiaomi’s Redmi Note 4 might have never made it officially to the U.S., but the many channels through which the phone was sold made it possible for fans to grab what was arguably the best budget phone in 2017 from whichever corner of the world they were.
Well, the story is the same with respect to the Redmi Note 5, the successor to the Note 4 that has been selling in China since late 2017 as the Redmi 5 Plus. Yes, you read that right! What is the Redmi 5 Plus in China is now the Redmi Note 5 in India, but everything else remains unchanged.
Like the Redmi Note 4, it’s unlikely that the Redmi Note 5 will be making an official debut in the U.S. On the brighter side, there are lots of third-party channels that are selling the phone and can ship to the U.S. One of them is GearBest.
As of this writing, you can score the Redmi Note 5 for as little as $188.99. According to the online retailer, this is a discount that will end in two days’ time or after the remaining 150 pieces sell out. It’s worth noting that this price doesn’t include shipping or customs charges, so make sure you take that into account before placing an order.
The Redmi Note 5 has two memory options of 3/32GB and 4/64GB. This deal will get you a global version of the latter variant. As for the other specs, the Note 5 has a 5.99-inch full HD+ screen, Snapdragon 625, 4000mAh battery, 12MP + 5MP camera combination and runs Android 7.1.2 Nougat out of the box, but an update to Oreo should be out soon now that its counterpart, the Redmi Note 5 Pro, has already received Android 8.1 Oreo beta.
