GTA Online now lets you buys pets like cats and dogs. Part of the new winter update to GTA Online A Safehouse in the Hills, this is the first time that Rockstar has brought pet ownership into the game. You can own cats and dogs, add them to your mansion, give them names, change their appearance, as well as pet them.
If you've downloaded the update, here's how to go about buying a cat or a dog and petting them.
How to buy pets in A Safehouse in the Hills
Firstly, you will need to buy one of the three new mansions available as part of the update. Once you move in, the mansion's amenities become available, including kennels.
How to buy a cat in GTA Online
Step 1
Go to the lounge area of your mansion and find the cat bed. Interact with it.
Step 2
From the menu, select the option to buy a cat.
Step 3
Choose the color of the cat and confirm purchase. You can pick from White, Calico, Ginger, Gray, and Black.
Cats cost $15000, regardless of color.
Step 4
Give your cat a name. You can always return to the cat bed to change your cat's name.
Once confirmed and purchased, The cat will start to roam around the mansion.
How to buy a dog in GTA Online
While cats appear indoors, dogs appear in the kennel outdoors.
Step 1
Go to your mansion's exterior grounds. Go around the driveaway until you find the dog kennel. Interact with it.
Step 2
From the menu, choose the option to buy a dog.
Step 3
Choose your dog's breed and color. You can pick from the following options:
- Husky - Black, brown, white
- Poodle - White
- Pug - Black, brown and tan, cream
- Retriever - Gold, black, cream, brown
- Rottweiler - Black, brown, brindle, gray, red, light brown
- Shepherd - Black, brown merie
- Westy - Black, brown, white
Regardless of breed or color, all dogs cost $15000.
Step 4
Give your dog a name and confirm your purchase. Once available, your dog will start roaming your property grounds.
You can always rename your dog later by interacting with the kennel.
How to pet your dog
To pet your dog, simply walk up to it and press right D-pad button on the controller or press E on PC.
This will cause your character to start petting the dog.
Adding cats and dogs to your mansion makes your property appear more like a home than a showpiece. It's a small change but one that adds a lot of life. Apart from pets, the update also brings new story content, vehicles, and a few gameplay changes.
