What to know
- A Base Core is required before any proper base can function
- Meteorite Hearts are mandatory to place a Base Core
- Meteorites must be destroyed to obtain Meteorite Hearts
- Power flows through structures and rails
In Star Rupture, building a base starts with a single structure: the Base Core. This object defines your settlement, enables power distribution, and allows other buildings to function. Here’s how the entire process works, step by step, using the most up-to-date in-game mechanics.
Base Core quick overview
| Aspect | Details |
|---|---|
| Required item | Meteorite Heart |
| Purpose | Establishes a functional base |
| Power system | Conducted through structures |
| Placement | Flat, open terrain recommended |
| Expansion | Supports scalable base growth |
What the Base Core does in Star Rupture
The Base Core acts as the heart of your settlement. Once placed, it enables power flow, machine operation, and building connectivity. Without it, generators, production units, and habitats will not function correctly.
It also defines your base’s operational area, making it essential before any serious progression.
How to get a Meteorite Heart
Meteorite Hearts are obtained by destroying meteorites found throughout the world. These large space rocks are durable but predictable once you know how to break them efficiently.
How meteorites work
Meteorites have a visible health indicator shown as a white line. As you attack, the bar depletes until the meteorite detonates and drops resources, including Meteorite Hearts.
Targeting differently colored sections on the meteorite significantly speeds up the process, allowing you to break them faster and with fewer resources spent.
How to build a Base Core in Star Rupture
Step 1: Locate a meteorite
Explore open areas until you find a meteorite embedded in the terrain. They are visually distinct and hard to miss.

Step 2: Destroy the meteorite
Attack the meteorite while watching the white health line. Focus on colored weak points to reduce its health faster.

Step 3: Collect the Meteorite Heart
Once the meteorite explodes, loot the dropped items. Make sure you collect at least one Meteorite Heart.

Step 4: Enter build mode
Open the build menu and navigate to the Base Core option. If required, ensure it is unlocked in your tech or recipe menu.

Step 5: Place the Base Core
Position the Base Core on solid, flat ground. Once placed, your base becomes officially established.

Choosing the right location for your Base Core
Placement matters more than it seems. A good Base Core location should:
- Be relatively flat to avoid placement issues
- Sit near key resources like ore or water
- Offer natural protection such as elevation or terrain cover
You can place additional Base Cores later, but early-game efficiency depends heavily on your first choice.
How power works after placing the Base Core
Star Rupture does not use traditional power cables. Electricity flows through connected structures such as foundations, walkways, and rails.
To power your base:
- Place generators like solar panels
- Physically connect them to the Base Core using conductive structures
- Ensure machines touch powered structures
If a machine is not connected through solid infrastructure, it will not receive power.
Expanding your base after the Base Core
Once active, you can begin placing habitats, production buildings, storage, and defenses around the Base Core. Keeping critical systems close improves efficiency and defense.
Multiple Base Cores can be used later to support large-scale bases, but they are not necessary early on.
