Himax isn’t a name that comes to mind when you talk about smartphones. This company which specializes in designing microchips has gone ahead and surprised us with a powerful device packed into a small form factor. The device was spotted on GFXbench and the specs are looking petty good.

The Himax M23s could feature a smaller than average 4.6-inch display with FHD resolution, leading to a 478 PPI super dense screen. But that’s not all, the smartphones may pack in 4GB of RAM, 64GB of inbuilt storage, a 22MP rear camera and an 8MP front camera, and it may run on the Mediatek MT6750T octa-core chipset.

The listing as GFXbench is not the only proof of device’s existence, BTW, as we also got wind of the device at Indonesia’s certification hub, POSTEL.

The Himax 23s is expected to ship with Android 7.0 Nougat out of the box, which is quite surprising for an OEM who’s presence is not large in smartphone industry. This leaves us wondering what other major OEMs are doing when they ship their latest smartphones with Marshmallow on board (looking at you Samsung, for 2017 Galaxy A3/A5/A7 and C5 Pro/C7 Pro).
