If you visit the Google homepage on your mobile device now, you may be greeted with a mic button in the search bar. And that’s a new thing: Believe it or not, you actually didn’t have the mic button there till now.

As we get more used to the idea of searching via voice than typing the query out, this is a welcome change. The only surprise is that it wasn’t available before. Why we didn’t miss it already is maybe because we already have a mic button the keyboard app, which our muscle memory uses to quickly bring up the voice search menu and get the job done.

But having it right there on the homepage itself is a big help, now that we won’t even need to bring up the keyboard in the first place.

Besides the addition of voice search on its mobile homepage, Google also gave us a new UI. Have a peek!

Voice search

In order to find voice search on your mobile browser, follow these steps:

  1. Open your Mobile’s web browser.
  2. In the URL at the top type Google.com.
  3. Tap the grey microphone button, left to the search button.
  4.  It will ask for Permission to use your Microphone.
  5. Click on Allow.
  6. Once you allow that, then again tap on the microphone button.
  7. A blank white page will appear saying Speak Now.

Now you can easily search on the mobile web with the help of a Voice command. As we said it isn’t a huge dealbreaker as this feature is much more easily accessible via several other ways, including the mic button on the keyboard apps and Google assistant app on our Android smartphones.

New Search interface

With the new Voice search, another feature introduced is the improved search interface in the Google mobile web.

Now when you start typing in the search bar, you will get the predictions right below the bar but now, they will slightly be different than before.

The search prediction text is more simplified, rather than in a boxed shape. With this, there is also a back button provided to the left of the search bar.
