Till date, Google has never offered paid applications or games for free, but this situation seems to be changing quickly at least in the newly launched Family section of the Play Store. Well, Google is now offering a ‘Free App of the Week’ that will let parents to download a paid app or game for their kids.

As of now, it is not known if this offer is available via other means. It could be a promotion for the Family section feature as it is exclusively available only on it.

The first ‘Free App of the Week’ is Daniel Tiger Grr-ific Feelings that is priced at $2.99. You can head onto the Family section in the Google Play Store and you will get a big banner that shows the free app.

You need to click on this banner and you will get a popup that will tell you the title of the application, developer and the install button. You can check out the information on the application and make your way to the application’s page manually. If you want for the application for free, you need to install it by clicking on the banner.

One thing that has to be made clear is that Google does not want the developers to provide their applications for free as they will hike the price to a heftier one in the future. Usually, the developers provide discount on the paid apps only if they like to increase the price in the future. However, the ‘Free App of the Week’ is an exemption.
