What to know
- Gemini lets Chrome users get quick answers, summaries, and comparisons across tabs.
- Upcoming features will let Gemini handle real tasks like booking or ordering online.
- It’s free for all Mac and Windows Chrome users in the US for now.
- Integration with Google apps and on-device AI means better security and productivity.
Google has now added Gemini to Chrome. Now, Mac and Windows users in the US get smart AI help in the browser. It can summarise pages, answer questions, and soon, it’ll handle boring tasks online too.
What Gemini Can Do
Right now, Gemini can answer questions, explain complex things on any page, and help summarize or compare things across multiple tabs. For example, if there were tabs left open from trip planning, shopping, or work, Gemini could find those pages again even if they were closed.
Upcoming AI Agent Features
Google says even bigger changes are coming. Soon, Gemini in Chrome will get “agentic” abilities—basically, it will start doing real tasks online for people. This means booking things, filling out forms, or handling online orders almost on its own.
How Gemini Connects
Gemini links up with Google apps like Calendar, YouTube, and Maps. That means people can pull meeting details, schedule things, or jump straight to a part of a YouTube video—without having to leave their current tab.
Security and Privacy
Google says the browser uses a lighter Gemini model to spot risky pages, fraud, and scams. So now, Chrome can warn about sketchy sites before personal info goes in.
The Impact for Chrome Users
Here’s what it means: By adding Gemini, Chrome is starting to handle the busywork that used to be annoying or just took up time. Instead of only giving info, the browser is about to help people get actual online chores done.
Pricing
Gemini in Chrome is now free for everybody on Mac and Windows in the US who’s using the English version of Chrome. There’s no extra charge—no need to subscribe or sign up for a paid AI plan to get these features. For folks interested in more advanced AI features outside Chrome, Google has AI Pro and AI Ultra plans costing $19.99 and $249.99 per month, but regular Gemini in Chrome is included for nothing extra.
Availability
At the moment, Gemini in Chrome is rolling out only for Mac and Windows users in the United States, with Chrome set to English (US). Support for more countries and Chrome on iOS is coming later in 2025. Google plans to expand to more regions and platforms over time.
