Despite having only one single-lens camera, the Google Pixel smartphones still remain among the best when it comes to photography. This has little to do with the hardware and more to do with the software on board – the Google Camera app – and guess what, this app’s port is now available for download on all Snapdragon 845-powered Xiaomi phones led by the budget-centric Poco F1 as well as the Xiaomi Mi MIX 2S and Mi 8.

The initial work was done using a Xiaomi Mi 8 but since this device shares the same hardware as the Poco F1 and Mi MIX 2S, the same port works on these two as well. The port comes as Google Camera 5.1.018 and with it, users of these devices can expect to enjoy stuff like HDR+ and portrait mode, but the developer says ZSL, slow-motion video recording and Smart burst are not working, at least for now.

In order for the Google Camera app to work on your phone, it must have the Camera2 API enabled, something that is missing on most Xiaomi devices. On the brighter side, all Snapdragon 845 and Snapdragon 710-powered Xiaomi phones have this API enabled by default, meaning there’s no need to unlock the bootloader and tweak files just so as to accommodate the Google Camera port on your phone.
