Google’s very own virtual assistant may just be a year and a half old, but it has been decades in the making. What started off as Google Voice Commands has today turned into one of the smartest AI tech that is available to the end user. But now, Google wants to break the language barrier and connect users across the world by taking Google Assistant global.
Over the past year, Google Assistant was integrated into homes through the magic of Google Home, and to your cars with Android Auto at CES 2017. Now as we approach the largest mobile consumer event of the new year, Google Assistant is all geared up to be introduced to 30 more languages.
Google has already pushed forward Google Assistant in English, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Spanish, and Portuguese. The extended support for 30 more languages would cover up 95 percent of all the Google Assistant supported devices out there.
“In the next few months, we’ll bring the Assistant to Danish, Dutch, Hindi, Indonesian, Norwegian, Swedish and Thai on Android phones and iPhones, and we’ll add more languages on more devices throughout the year.”
In their official blog post, Google highlighted that they’ve been planning the massive rollout since MWC 2017. However, the biggest take from it all was the fact that Google Assistant will soon have new integrations for Android OEMs like LG, Sony, and Xiaomi.
We hope that soon enough we’ll be able to activate Google Assistant on the Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 with “Hey Mi!”
