Ghost of Yotei features six main regions plus Mount Yotei, but only three are immediately accessible: Yotei Grasslands, Tokachi Range, and Mount Yotei. The remaining regions, including Teshio Ridge, unlock through completing specific main tales that involve hunting the Yotei Six members. This guide will walk through how to unlock it and how to access it once unlocked.
How to unlock Teshio Ridge through story progression
Starting the Yotei Six questline
Before accessing Teshio Ridge, you must initiate "The Yotei Six" main tale. This quest becomes available after completing "The Old Inn".
Step 1: Engage random enemy encounters
Ride through Yotei Grasslands and engage any hostile groups encountered. These enemies appear regularly, practically every few hundred meters during the active quest period.
Step 2: Interrogate surviving enemies
After defeating each group, the last surviving enemy automatically enters interrogation mode. Players can then choose which Yotei Six member to inquire about.
Step 3: Select the Kitsune
When given the choice between the Oni, Kitsune, or Saito Brothers, select "The Kitsune" to receive intelligence about their location in Teshio Ridge.

Traveling to the Teshio Ridge
Once the Kitsune quest activates, a golden objective marker appears in the northern section of Tokachi Range. This begins the journey toward Teshio Ridge, though you cannot access it directly.

Step 1: Navigate to the Central Ferry
From Yotei Grasslands, head northeast following the Nupur River. Keep the river to your left as you travel through Tokachi Range. Continue along this path until you reach the northernmost edge of the region at the Great Lake. The journey covers significant distance, so using your horse for efficient travel is recommended.
Step 2: Locate the ferry departure point
At the Great Lake, look for a small campfire gathering near the water's edge. This location is marked as the "Central Ferry" on your map once discovered. The area features a wooden dock structure and an Ainu elder named Huci seated by the campfire. If you have difficulty finding the exact spot, look for the ferry boat itself along the shoreline.
Step 3: Speak with Huci the ferrywoman
Approach Huci at the campfire to initiate conversation. She serves as the ferry operator who can transport players across the Great Lake to the northern regions. During the dialogue, express your need for passage north. Huci will offer to ferry you to the Nayoro Wilds, which serves as the stepping stone to Teshio Ridge.
Step 4: Choose to travel north
When presented with dialogue options, select "Travel North to the Nayoro Wilds". This choice begins a brief cutscene showing the ferry journey across the Great Lake. The ferry also transports your horse on a cargo barge, ensuring you maintain your mobility upon arrival.
Step 5: Disembark at North Ferry
After the ferry ride, you'll arrive at the North Ferry location in the Nayoro Wilds. This area unlocks several optional side quests, including "Heart of an Ainu," but your primary objective remains reaching Teshio Ridge. Mount your horse and prepare to continue the journey northward.
Step 6: Travel to Teshio Ridge proper
From the North Ferry, ride north following the quest marker on your map. The landscape gradually transitions from the Nayoro Wilds into the rocky, snow-covered terrain of Teshio Ridge. You'll recognize the region change when you encounter steep ridges, heavy snowfall, and the appearance of merchant groups struggling with spooked horses.
Step 7: Meet the merchants
Upon entering Teshio Ridge, you'll encounter three merchants having difficulty with their horses. Approach this group to trigger a cutscene where they request escort services to the Red Crane Inn. This interaction officially begins the "Spirits of Teshio Ridge" quest and confirms your successful entry into the region.
When the merchants offer payment for protection services, choose "Rudeness costs extra" to receive compensation at the quest's completion. Selecting "No thanks" delays payment but doesn't affect quest progression.
Successfully reaching Teshio Ridge opens extensive content beyond the main Kitsune questline. The region contains seven Yotei Six camps to liberate, multiple bounty targets to pursue, and various side tales including "The Winter Farms" sensei tale. The area's fox-themed puzzles and snow-covered environment create unique gameplay challenges that distinguish it from other regions in Ghost of Yotei.
