How to solve the fox statue puzzle (step-by-step)

Step 1: Get the torch

Interact with the brazier to the left of the tree to light your torch.

Step 2: Identify which lanterns to light

You must light exactly three lanterns:

  • The lantern immediately left of the tree.
  • The two lanterns just to the right of the locked door behind the tree.
  • Do not light any other lanterns in the area (lighting extras will block the puzzle).
Step 3: Light those three lanterns using your torch

Approach each of the specified lanterns and use the torch to ignite them.

Step 4: Return to the pedestal and interact

Go back to the pedestal under the tree. When the correct lanterns are lit, an interaction prompt appears on the pedestal. Activate it. This unlocks the door behind the tree.

Step 5: Enter the forest

Pass through the newly unlocked door and continue along the path.

By lighting the correct three lanterns (one to the left of the tree, two to the right of the door) and then interacting with the pedestal under the tree, the locked forest door opens. That clears the way forward in the Kitsune questline. This puzzle is mostly about identifying and lighting the correct lanterns — once that logic is understood, the rest is mechanical.
