The kunai stands as one of Ghost of Yotei's most versatile quickfire weapons, serving both combat and stealth purposes throughout Atsu's journey. These throwing blades become available early in the adventure and prove invaluable against the challenging encounters ahead.

How to unlock the kunai weapon

The kunai becomes available through a specific quest chain that begins with "The Burning of Castle Ishikari". This sensei tale requires progressing to Teshio Ridge, one of the northern regions in Ghost of Yotei's expansive map.

Step 1

Travel to Teshio Ridge region after completing the main story requirements. This area becomes accessible as part of the natural story progression through the game's chapters.

Step 2

Locate "The Winter Farms" quest marker on your map. The starting location is at Hana's Farm in the northwest portion of Teshio Ridge.

Look for a dead body in front of the farmhouse to trigger the quest.

Step 3

Investigate the dead body to start the quest sequence.

This action automatically triggers an attack by Nine Tails enemies, initiating your first encounter with these adversaries.

Step 4

Defeat the Nine Tails enemies that ambush you during the investigation. After clearing these initial foes, Hana will approach and offer to teach the kunai techniques.

Step 5

Complete the kunai training session with Hana.

She demonstrates proper throwing technique, emphasizing using your whole body rather than just wrist movement for maximum power and accuracy.

After completing the initial The Winter Farms quest, Hana becomes available as the Kunai Artisan. She provides both weapon upgrades and kunai replenishment services throughout the game.

The Winter Farms quest extends beyond the initial training, requiring defense of five separate farm locations throughout Teshio Ridge.
