When following Master Enomoto’s teachings at an Altar of Reflection in Ghost of Yotei, you are participating in a core aspect of Atsu’s journey. The altars are hidden across Ezo and serve as important spiritual and mechanical turning points for unlocking new skills and techniques—making reflection not just a meditative act, but a source of strength and growth for the protagonist.

How Master's teachings inform reflection

Master Enomoto’s guidance is echoed through the themes of discipline and intention at the altars. You are encouraged to approach each altar as more than a game mechanic; instead, treat it as a moment to pause and consider which technique will truly serve your progress. Enomoto teaches that mindfulness leads to mastery—so take a breath and let the surrounding quiet help you focus on what your character, Atsu, truly needs.

How to think of Master's Teaching at an Altar of Reflection

Step 1

Find and approach an Altar of Reflection, often hidden in meaningful or scenic places like mountain peaks, forest groves, or behind waterfalls. You can go to any of the Altars. But make sure to clear them off the enemies first.

Step 2

Stand in front of the altar and initiate the interaction by swiping down on the touchpad or pressing the designated button, which triggers a bow or moment of respect.

Step 3

The technique menu opens with available skills divided into Onryo, Melee, Revenge, or Wolf. For Enomoto, select Kurasigama's skill point. Hold X to learn the skill.

Step 4

This will allow you to learn the skill and also complete the quest task of "Think of Master Enomoto's teachings."

Reflect on Masters' teachings

For each of the weapons that are granted by Masters of Ezo, skills and techniques are to be learned the same way.

As you unlock new weapons such as the katana, odachi, kusarigama, spear, and tanegashima through your journey and training with different masters, progression happens by visiting Altars of Reflection and choosing skills from specialized technique trees for each weapon.

This unified approach keeps the experience consistent, allowing you to upgrade any weapon with new combos, abilities, and tactical options by reflecting and making thoughtful choices at the altars—just as you do for your main skills and techniques
