The popular search giant, Google, has introduced many new regional and national languages in the latest update of its keyboard app(v6.2), Gboard, among other things that include cursor control and resizable keyboard. Widely acclaimed for its amazing features, Gboard app continues to amaze us with each of its update.
The latest update brings support for many regional Indian language. Surprisingly many of the new languages come in different dialects as well. Also, you can type in English and Gboard app will automatically convert it into your local language.

The new Indian languages that have been added are:
- Assamese
- Dogri
- Gujarati
- Kashmiri
- Manipuri
- Odia
- Punjabi
- Sanskrit
- Sindhi
In case you are wondering, Gboard supported following languages:
- Bengali
- Hindi
- Malay
- Malyalam
- Marathi
- Tamil
- Telugu
- Urdu
To activate a language, go to Gboard settings, followed by Languages. Turn off the “Use system language” option and enable your preferred language from the list. To switch between languages while typing, long touch the spacebar.
In case, Gboard in not your default keyboard, first download it from the link below, then go to phone settings followed by Language and Input and change the keyboard to Gboard in “Default” keyboard.
